MANGALORE: The CET toppers are on cloud nine. Success has come as a big surprise for them, but they are happy that the hard work has paid off.
Naveen Bhat Y, student of Sri Sathya Sai PU College, Alike, and Anish Bhat P, student of St Aloysius PU College have secured the first rank in engineering and medicine streams respectively.
An excited Naveen told The Times of India he expected a rank in the top 10, but not the first rank.
Son of National Highways department assistant engineer Umesh Bhat, he joined Sri Sathya Sai campus in the IX std. "The disciplined lifestyle, spiritual atmosphere and motivation by the teachers helped me achieve success," he said. Apart from studying for four to five hours a day and taking part in different activities inside the campus from 5 am to 10 am. Naveen, who is awaiting the AIEEE results said he would like to take up BE in electronics and communication. But engineering is not his final aim. It is the IAS.
Anish who secured the first rank in medicine said: "I expected a rank in top 50. Confidence and focussed studies helped me achieve success." During the examinations I was studying for 10-12 hours, mostly at night, he said. Son of cardiologist P S Bhat, Anish said he has not yet decided whether to join medicine or engineering. He has secured 18th rank in engineering.
Among the other toppers, Sandeep Pai, from St Aloysius, has secured sixth rank in engineering and dreams of a career in civil services. Son of Corporation Bank manager Sathish Pai H, feels a career in the civil services will ensure a secure and respectable job and give him an opportunity to serve the nation. He has not yet decided which engineering stream to join, but is keen on electronics and communication or mechanical.
Sandip's cousin and student of Expert PU College, Nithin Mallya, bagged the ninth rank in engineering. Son of SBM assistant manager Nithyananda Mallya, Sandip said he focused on studies and understanding the concepts rather than long studies. He is waiting for the AIEEE results and is yet to decide which subject to choose.
Sanal Canute Fernandes, also from St Aloysius, has bagged the ninth rank in medical. Sanal is clear he wants to do his MBBS. Son of an NRI father Alex Stany Fernandes, Sanal was inspired by his sister, Sharol, who, too, is studying medicine. "I am not a bookworm and studied for two to two-and-a-half hours a day with full concentration," he said and added that he aims to become a neurologist.
